Mamie Eisenhower Committee

The oldest literacy project of the NFRW is the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project (MELP). It was established in 1961 in honor of the former First Lady and the LFRW is proud to play an active role in this project.

The Chairman of this Committee leads Clubs throughout the state to donate books and videos to public or school libraries.  The books are selected from an approved list featured on the website of the NFRW. The NFRW provides specially designed MELP Book Plates for each donated book.

In 2008, the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project celebrated the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln, and books devoted to honoring the 16th President of the United States, the founder of the Republican Party, were featured on the list.  Additions to the MELP list are made periodically and the NFRW Mamie Eisenhower Project encourages recommendations from its members.

Linda Vinsanau of the St. Bernard Women Republican Club is the Chair of this Project for the LFRW in 2009-2011.  Her Vice Chair is Lynette DiFatta from the St. Bernard Club also.
